Thousands of Trump fans swarm through New York park to demonstrate

Thousands of diehard Trump fans flooded the South Bronx on Thursday to attend the former president’s campaign rally, including one stalwart who compared the Republican to one of the most famous civil rights activists.

“He represents us, the black people of this city and the world. He is a real Nelson Mandela,” Paget Jones, 45, of Harlem, told The Post outside the event in Crotona Park.

The Big Apple teacher, wearing a red MAGA hat, compared Trump’s fight against his four federal indictments to the 27 years Mandela spent behind bars for going against his country’s racist policies.

Trump is the first current or former president to be indicted on criminal charges.

“The fact that I like Trump and that so many black people are here in the Bronx supporting Trump is because Trump is a fighter. Trump has that God factor. They prosecuted him, they lied about him! she said, adding that she voted for him twice.

“New York’s minorities are doing better. “It definitely represents that vote.”

The rally in the South Bronx marks the first that Trump, 77, has hosted in his home state in eight years, and comes just two weeks after an event at the Jersey Shore two weeks ago drew a crowd of almost 100,000 people.

Only 3,500 people were allowed into the Bronx gathering, but the crowd outside the registration gates far exceeded the capacity limit hoping to catch a glimpse of the rare event.

While the NYPD did not provide an immediate estimate of the crowd, the Trump campaign said at least 20,000 people were gathered outside.

Red MAGA hats and “Let’s Go Brandon” t-shirts were seen throughout the Big Apple park in preparation for the former president, and the pungent smell of marijuana hung in the air.

Among those in attendance was a rapper with a thigh tattoo of the Republican’s face and a MAGA diehard who follows Trump around the country in an RV adorned with Trump insignia.

One man even dressed up like the 2024 candidate, sporting Trump’s signature red tie and blue suit combo, along with a pouting duck face.

Christopher Ahearn, 66, of Norwood, was one of many hopefuls lining up to attend the rally, which would be his first.

“I think he cares about this country and cares about the citizens. I don’t think there’s any other option,” the retired electrician said of Trump.

Ahearn strongly supports the Republican, even though his own wife and his electricians union lean toward Biden.

“I can’t get my wife to talk sense.”

“Joe Biden has done nothing and is a criminal. He is ridiculous! The man cannot walk. He can press the nuclear button and he is a functional asshole.”

Steve Riley, 58, of the County Club neighborhood of the Bronx, said he is “very happy” for the opportunity to stand in line for 90 minutes to hear Trump speak.

Riley, who works in real estate, admires that Trump has stuck to his conservative policies throughout his political career, even during a four-year hiatus.

“Why do I support it? Because there is nothing you can’t support in him. All of his policies are perfect: closing the border, all kinds of things for the American people,” Riley said, wearing a T-shirt that said “Trump 2024 Payback’s a Bitch.”

“I’ve seen my business relationships, everyone has changed, even the so-called Democrats have now changed their minds.”

However, not all attendees were pro-Trump.

Several dozen resisters placed a sign reading “No to dictators in the United States” outside the park in opposition to the Republican’s arrival.

Peter Blade, who was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in the Bronx, calmly attended the rally to experience the hype, despite losing faith in Trump following his 2017 visit to the storm-battered Caribbean island.

“The only time Trump went to Puerto Rico was after Hurricane Maria and he threw paper towels at his supporters. Those were people who looked up to Trump. It was a major hurricane. Six months passed without electricity,” said Blade, 50.

As a sign of his silent opposition, the facilities maintenance worker wore two rolls of paper towels tied to a nylon rope around his neck and a hat with the coqui, or native frog of Puerto Rico: “We have not forgotten.” .

According to the Blade, Trump’s choice to host a rally in the Bronx was not out of kindness.

“I feel like he came to the Bronx because we are the last resort. Due to his legal problems, he had no choice. But it’s okay. We are used to being the last resort. They never discard us. They tell us the latest ones,” Blade emphasized.

“Fuck Trump! Fuck Biden too! They don’t give a damn about you! the anti-Trump group shouted.
