Samsung could launch thinner variants of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6

There have been rumors that Samsung is testing a slimmer, higher-end version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, that’s not the only foldable phone the company is experimenting with. The South Korean firm also appears to be testing a slimmer version of the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Thinner versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 could be on the way

A few months ago, CAD-based renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 were leaked. And those images revealed that Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones won’t be much thinner than existing models. However, the company appears to be testing slimmer versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

GalaxyClub reports the existence of ‘B6 Slim’ and ‘Q6 Slim’. If we look at Samsung’s history, B6 is the internal codename of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, while Q6 is the codename of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Samsung was planning a limited launch of a device with the codename Q6A. , and some reports claimed that it could be the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra. So the Q6 Slim could be the previously reported Q6A.

However, this is where things get more interesting. The GalaxyClub report also claims that Samsung is working on a device codenamed Q6 Slim Pro. However, it is unclear whether the Q6 Slim and Q6 Slim Pro refer to the same device or two separate models. It is difficult to interpret this information so early in the device development cycle.

Will the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim have a better camera?

Some reports claim that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra will be thinner and have better camera hardware than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6. Display industry expert Ross Young recently reported that Samsung is working on a device called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, which could be released in the fourth quarter of 2024. It reportedly lacks a digitizer for the S Pen to that can be thinner.

Ross also claimed that the display panel of this slimmer Galaxy Z Fold 6 will start shipping in the fourth quarter of this year, and that the device could launch in the first quarter of 2025, probably alongside the Galaxy S25 series.

Some consumers have been calling for Samsung to release a wider Galaxy Z Fold phone with a less noticeable crease, a wider clamshell display, and flagship-quality cameras. Many Chinese phones have already released these types of phones, so Samsung must be under pressure to test at least some hardware improvements for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 line.

More detailed and credible information about the slimmer versions of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be revealed in the coming months.
