Made-In-Ghana Bazaar to facilitate the penetration of Ghanaian products into foreign markets

Accra, May 24, GNA – The Made in Ghana Bazaar aims to facilitate the penetration of Ghanaian products and services into foreign markets using the network of Ghanaian Missions abroad.

Ms Mavis Nkansah Boadu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in charge of Finance and Administration, said that would invariably support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and provide them with the impetus to expand their reach in markets, including the of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He stated this at the inauguration of the Third Made in Ghana Bazaar on the theme: “Promotion of goods and services made in Ghana for economic prosperity”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Other supporting organizations include the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ghana Industries Association.

The Bazaar seeks to promote Ghanaian products internationally, using the network of Ghanaian Diplomatic Missions.

It is a flagship program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, launched in 2018, following the Government’s decision to re-establish the Ministry’s Office of Economy, Trade and Investment in 2017, in line with its economic and industrial transformation agenda.

The Bazaar brings together over 150 exhibitors and the products on display represent some of Ghana’s iconic offerings in the local and international markets.

The products on display range from traditional crafts and artisanal work to products manufactured with cutting-edge technology.

Mrs Boadu said the Ministry had executed its economic diplomacy agenda with its diplomatic missions abroad and associated institutions, helping Ghanaian businesses access foreign markets with their goods and services.

It provides business advisory and consular services to Ghanaian companies and facilitates the resolution of commercial misunderstandings and conflicts between Ghanaian companies and their foreign partners.

He reiterated that the objective of identifying more markets for Ghanaian products and services would be pursued.

“It is in light of this that this Bazaar is being held in order to collect data on all our exhibitors and distribute it to Ghanaian Missions abroad as well as Diplomatic Missions accredited in the Republic of Ghana, to assist to identify a market for them and expand their business. reach,” Ms. Boadu said.

The potential of strategic economic diplomacy had become so evident today that States were seen increasing collaboration between state and non-state actors, increasing the importance of World Trade Organization (WTO) issues and the continued negotiation of agreements of free trade and preferential trade, he said.

Countries had also focused their diplomatic engagements around economic diplomacy, where Foreign Ministries were forging stronger ties with the private sector to attract necessary foreign direct investment into their countries.

“It is in this regard that the theme chosen for the Bazaar ‘Promotion of Made in Ghana Goods and Services for Economic Prosperity’ is apt as it is strategically designed to leverage the innovative efforts of our Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) .

Ms Boadu said the AfCFTA framework had provided a unique opportunity for intra-African trade and Ghana was at the forefront of implementing that agreement.

In addition to hosting its Secretariat, Ghana had been able to trade with some African countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Cameroon and South Africa, under the AfCFTA Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), launched in October 2022 to test implementation of the AfCFTA agreement.

Kobina Tahir Hammond, Minister of Trade and Industry, who inaugurated the bazaar, called on Ghanaians to patronize products made in Ghana.

“I encourage each of you to patronize these made-in-Ghana products and services, not only for their functionality and price, but also out of a sense of pride and patriotism,” he said.

“By supporting your local businesses and artisans, you are not only meeting their needs, but also investing in the local economy and strengthening and preserving our productive sectors for future generations.”

“Every purchase made here today helps sustain livelihoods and promote productivity and sustainability in our communities.”
