Why Freo simply has to get the job done against depleted magpies in Perth

SEN presenter David King is intrigued by Collingwood’s line-up for Friday’s clash against Fremantle in Perth.

The Magpies have been hit by the injury bug in recent weeks and as a result are playing six players with less than 10 games of AFL experience.

None of those players were anywhere near Collingwood’s top 23 at the start of the season, but amid the increasing number of casualties, the Magpies remain unbeaten since Round 2.

King believes that with so many young and inexperienced players in the team, the burden on the club’s leaders and senior management is much greater than it has been in a long time.

“Looking at Collingwood’s lineup for tonight, I think this is probably the most they’re going to rely on their senior core players for a long, long time,” King said. SEN Breakfast.

“It is a young team. It’s a very young team coming to Perth.

“I think they have six guys with less than 10 games of experience in the lineup: (Harvey) Harrison, (Lachie) Sullivan, (Charlie) Dean, (Joe) Richards and the two debutants (Wil) Parker and Ed Allan. It’s great to see them get their chance.

“What that does is shift the responsibility onto the Daicos (Nick and Josh), (Steele) Sidebottom and (Scott) Pendlebury so they have to do more… Darcy Moore, to carry the load.

“Now they are more than capable of doing that. “We know we have praised them for being Hall of Fame level players.”

With Collingwood out and the game being in Perth, King thinks Fremantle simply have to seal the clash and take advantage of this golden opportunity to win.

At 6-4, King believes the Dockers must win this game if they want to be taken seriously in 2024.

“But, on the road, the more you look at it, the more you feel like this is a game Fremantle just has to seal,” King said.

“If they’re the team we think they are, when they have a young team like this on the road, they’ve got to get the job done.”

Kick-off for Friday’s game at Optus Stadium is scheduled for 6:10 pm (AWST) and 8:10 pm (AEST).
