Irish mother “lives a nightmare” after the kidnapping of her children in Egypt

An Irish mother has said she is “living a nightmare” after her two children were kidnapped by their father in Egypt two years ago.

Mandy Kelly calls on the Government to take action and use his diplomatic powers bringing five-year-old Zayn and three-year-old Kareem back home.

The Dundalk woman was traveling with the children and her husband, Ramy Gamal Maamoun Mohamed, to visit her grandmother in Egypt when the kidnapping occurred.

“The day we were supposed to travel back to Ireland, March 11, my husband told me bluntly that he would not be returning,” she said.

“Worse still, I was not allowed to travel back with our two children.

“Unfortunately, my two beautiful children are still stranded there.”

Mandy has tried everything to get her children back and has secured a High Court order against her husband, while European and national arrest warrants have been issued against her husband.

She also met with Justice Minister Helen McEntee, Children’s Advocate Dr Niall Muldoon, Egyptian officials and senior Muslim leaders in Ireland to try to secure the safe return of her kidnapped children.

“Absolutely horrible”

Mandy is now calling on the Irish Government to step up.

“The last two years have been absolutely horrible,” he said.

“I have used every channel open to me, so the time has come for the Irish Government to intervene, immediately.

“They need to understand the harm they have caused my children by leaving them in a foreign country after being kidnapped, by not intervening and by telling me that the Egyptian courts will protect my children,” she said.

“They blatantly know that the Egyptian courts do not defend the best interests of the child.”

Dundalk’s mother said her husband is demanding ransom for the children.

“The Government knows that my ex-partner had demanded a ransom of €500,000,” she said.

“For the High Court, he even got a lawyer in Egypt to notarize the statement.

“They know this is not a case of ‘love tug’: my children are hostages in a foreign land.”

‘My children are calling to come back’

Mandy hasn’t even seen a photo of her children in the last two years.

“There’s definitely a spirit guiding me through this because I know my kids need to get back to Ireland,” she said.

“I can almost feel in my blood and in my heart that my children are calling me to return to Ireland; I know they need me and that’s why I stay so strong.

“I stay strong for them and I stay strong for other parents who, God forbid, will have to go through this in the future.”

Dundalk’s mother said she “won’t give up until her children return” to Ireland.
