Philadelphia shooting: Scooter driver shoots three people after crash on East Allegheny Avenue in Kensington

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are searching for the scooter driver who shot three people after a car crash in the city’s Kensington section.

Gunshots were heard around 3 p.m. after a driver struck a scooter rider traveling west in the 300 block of East Allegheny Avenue.

Video obtained by Action News shows the accident and then the scooter driver opening fire on the block.

“The operator of that scooter gets up, pulls out a gun and starts shooting indiscriminately,” Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Pedro Rosario said.

Three bystanders were shot, including an 8-year-old girl, who was hit in the head while she was inside the car with her father.

According to the School District of Philadelphia, the girl had just left Lewis Elkin Elementary School when she was shot.

A family spokesperson says the young woman, identified as Kaylien, will have to undergo surgery.

The shots also hit a 45-year-old pedestrian in the leg and a 47-year-old woman, who was inside another vehicle.

The school district confirmed that the 47-year-old victim is a teacher at Conwell Middle School. She was shot twice in the face.

All three victims are in stable condition.

The scooter driver and the driver who hit him left the scene.
