How to create an account and complete the profile as the student loan portal goes live

The first phase of the Nigerian student loan program has begun as the application portal goes live.

President Bola Tinubu signed the bill into law in June 2023 to establish a Student Loan Fund (SLF) to provide interest-free loans to Nigerians seeking higher education.

This is how you can apply


Step 1: Visit

Step 2: Click “Apply Now”

Step 3: Click “Start”

Step 4: Answer the questions on this page to continue by clicking “Yes, I am Nigerian”

Step 5: Verify your educational information. You will be asked to select your school from a drop-down menu and provide your tuition number to check if your school has uploaded your data.

Step 6: Click on “Verify with JAMB” and enter your JAMB details on the screen.

(Students whose NIN has not been registered with JAMB will have an input field where they can enter their NIN for validation).

Step 7: Create an account by entering your email address, Password and Confirm Password in the fields provided and click “Create Account”.

Step 8: Click on the email verification link sent to your email.

This concludes the account creation process.

After successfully registering, log in by clicking on the “LOG IN” button.

Step 1: Enter your email address and password to log in.

Step 2: Click on the “Continue to Contact Details” button.

Step 3: Update the contact details with your current phone number information, full residential address, state of residence and local government area of ​​residence and click “Continue with educational details”.

Step 4: Update your educational details by selecting your higher institution and entering your tuition number, then click “Continue to account details.”

Step 5: Check your BVN by entering your BVN, select your bank name and enter your account number. Click “Save Changes” to complete your profile.


Step 1: Click the “Apply for Student Loan” button at the top right of the screen on the home or loan page after logging in to the application.

Step 2: If you want a maintenance loan, click the checkbox and click Continue, if all you need is the institutional fee, click the “Continue” button.

Step 3: Upload supporting documents. The admission letter is mandatory and the student ID and invoice from the institution are optional.

Click the Policy and Declaration checkbox and click “Continue”

Step 4: Read the loan overview and click on the Terms and Conditions and GSI Mandate check boxes and then click “Submit Application.”

Step 5: Click the “Loans” button to view the status of your application.
